The project Knjiženstvo, Theory and History of Women’s Writing in Serbian until 1915 was founded within the project cycle of the Ministry of Science, Education and Technological Development that lasted between 2011 and 2019. The goal of the project is to shed light on the history of women’s literature in Serbian, and to theorise its particularities while reshaping existing, mostly western notions and models. The first year of the project also saw the establishment of the eponymous database and Knjiženstvo, Journal for Study of Literature, Gender and Culture.
During these ten years, the number of women writers in the digital database has exceeded 170 names, and the amount of bibliographical data is several times higher, which means that an important segment of the history of our literature has emerged. In 2019 and 2020, the software was updated, making the Knjiženstvo database clearer, providing it with more search options – see for yourself on this link: http://knjizenstvo.etf.bg.ac.rs/sr.
During this decade, in more than 140 scientific articles, 13 interviews and about 60 reviews, the journal has managed to encompass numerous topics from literature, other arts, digital humanities and culture in general, which centre around gender research.
In February 2020, the project received the “Anđelka Milić” award for its support to the development of creating knowledge in the area of gender studies in Serbia. (http://www.knjizenstvo.rs/sr/casopisi/2020/dogadjaji/nagrada-andjelka-milic-dodeljena-knjizenstvu#gsc.tab=0)
The project cycle of the Ministry ended in December 2019, but the journal and the database carry on.
Since 2011, 35 associates have participated in the project – professors, assistant professors, young researchers, scholarship holders, as well as many external associates. Collages made up of photographs taken during the first ten years of Knjiženstvo show the pleasant atmosphere that has always been a part of the work on the project, splendidly designed cover images of the journal and posters. Instead of meeting in person, which was planned for May 2020, we exhibit them here, thus marking this well-rounded decade and the start of a new one.
