International conference Women’s Movement Journal (1920–1938)

The international conference Women’s Movement Journal (1920–1938) was held via the ZOOM platform between October 7 and October 9 at Belgrade’s Institute for Literature and Art. The conference represented one in a string of activities within the project Women’s Movement 2020, whose goal is to mark the centennial of the foundation of the journal. The initiators and editors of the project are Jelena Milinković and Žarka Svirčev, research associates at the department of the Institute for Literature and Art Periodicals in the History of Serbian Literature and Culture. During the three-day conference, the focus of individual presentations of more than forty participants were various areas that constituted the horizon of the editorial policy and the context of finding the first and most influential Yugoslav feminist magazine, which turned out to be relevant and pertinent in the modern social, academic and political context.

Despite difficult conditions for scientific research and conferences caused by the pandemic, the presentations and accompanying discussions were extremely meaningful, thorough and encouraging. This was largely due to the international character of the conference, that is, the networking and exchange of knowledge between researchers from various areas, mostly those that belonged to Yugoslavia, as well as the splendidly conceived conference and its excellent organisation.
